Plaque to Cash at entrance of Frederick Apartments placed in the early Eighties by the Charlotte Historical Preservation Society as part of a city-wide plan to commemorate some of Charlotte's literary past, including long-time resident and social satirist Harry Golden, publisher and editor of The Carolina Israelite, and the much shorter one-year residence of Carson McCullers in 1939-40. (Cash would meet the young McCullers on a trip to Atlanta in March, 1941, just after her publication of The Heart Is A Lonely Hunter.) The plaque misstates Cash's birth year, actually 1900, as well as his residence tenure, late 1937 until his marriage to Mary Ross Northrup on December 25, 1940.
