Sister Mary Benedicta
From the distressed and deeply sincere expressions of grief that came to The News on the death of Sister Mary Benedicta, it was evident that this good woman was widely beloved for herself and her works of charity. We never knew her, though for fifty years she had been one of the Sisters of Mercy of the Sacred Heart Convent at Belmont, and hundreds of persons are eager to testify to her consecration and her zeal in ministering unto the poor.
In not having known her, we are at a disadvantage when it comes to eulogizing this woman sympathetically and perceptively. But this is a deficiency that the nomenclature of her order supplies, for what more eloquent could be said of anyone than that she was a Sister of Mercy of the Convent of the Sacred Heart.
