This editorial appeared in The News July 2, 1941 immediately below the editorial written on Cash's sudden death; Lyndon Johnson would never again lose a general election. Claims of ballot box stuffing followed the June 28 election but Johnson chose not to contest the matter. Though it was thought that O'Daniel might attend the 1941 Texas Commencement exercises, he probably did not as The Dallas Morning News reported him in another part of the state on the evening of June 2. Obviously, by the editorialization of The News, Cash was solidly in the corner of young New Dealer Johnson.
