Mary later recounted that at the funeral a Cash cousin from Charleston presided and stated apologetically that Cash did not really mean all those things he said about people in print and "after all, he was a good boy". Mary said her mother had to physically restrain her but that upon reflection she was certain that had Cash been present "he would have whooped at it all". Indeed...
